Target Audience: nurses and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of patients treated for or survivors of a blood cancer.This webinar will provide an overview of blood cancers, including the nurses’ role in monitoring and managing short and long-term side effects, and follow-up care for chronic diagnoses. Focus will be on survivorship issues that may arise in the treatment journey, and the impact on quality of life of Hispanic patients during and after treatment. Elia, M.A, APRN, ANP-BC; Program Manager of Climate & Clean Energy at the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy EnvironmentsHispanics/ Latinos are disproportionately affected by poor air quality and unsafe water standards and our community pays the price with our overall health. While we represent almost 20% of the population, 50% live in counties that violate air quality standards. Further, Hispanic/Latino populations are more likely to be subject to climate-related changes to heat indexes and are suffering from heat-related diseases and mortality. According to the CDC, safe and health-promoting foods are scarce, and Hispanics/Latinos have a 40% higher chance of developing type 2 diabetes. Our children are twice as likely to die of asthma than our white counterparts. Our communities are also nearly twice as likely to be diagnosed and lethally affected by stomach, liver, and cervical cancers.
